Bennie Griessel is back.  It has been eight months since he last touched a drop of alcohol.  Bennie cycles regularly for exercise and has lost 7 kg. He now has the engagement ring but he still needs to pluck up the courage to ask Alexa to marry him.  Bennie and his partner, Vaughn Cupido, have been handed a cold case of an ex-cop, Johnson Johnson. The docket is a mess and it’s been weeks, how are they going to find any leads?  The deceased was thrown from the elegant and upmarket Rovos Rail and Bennie and Vaughn have to try and find out whether it was suicide or murder.

Out in Bordeaux, France, Daniel happens to be out late one night trying to walk off his insomnia.  He scares off a group of youngsters who were chasing an older woman with a baseball bat.  Throughout the book the timeline and Daniel’s actions runs parallel to Bennie’s investigation and it keeps you guessing as to how the two stories will merge into one.

As the Hawks start unraveling the cold case they are drawn into the murky depths of various Government departments and State Capture. An entertaining read.
